White Asbestos

White Asbestos

If you are like a lot of people, then you probably always want to know more about the world and everything surrounding you. This is a good idea because it means that you will be more likely to lead a long, healthy life. After all, if you know more about your surroundings, then you will be able to know what things are healthy and what things are not. This is especially important when it comes to minerals. Many minerals are very helpful and useful, but there are also minerals that are unhealthy to be close to. You may have heard about white asbestos before. After all, it was a product that was used a lot to prevent homes from catching on fire. But you also probably heard that white asbestos caused lung cancer. Both things that you heard about white asbestos are correct. White asbestos can prevent fires from happening, but it can also cause lung cancer. Since it is a bad product, you are probably wondering if there is a ban on white asbestos. So, is there a ban on white asbestos?

Is there a ban on white asbestos?

Yes, there is a ban on white asbestos. As you know, this product was useful in the olden days because it was the best way to prevent fires from starting. But now there are other ways that fires can be prevented and peoples’ health is not at risk either. This is why there was a ban on white asbestos in the nineteen eighties. It prevented white asbestos from being used at all for any use in the United States.

Why there is a ban on white asbestos?

The reason that there was not a ban on white asbestos earlier is because scientists did not know that this product was bad for peoples’ health. White asbestos has been used for hundreds of years in clothes and other building materials. Nobody could prove that there was anything wrong with the product, which was why it kept getting used. It was not until the nineteen seventies that scientists learned that the fibers of white asbestos were not good at all for the lungs. The fibers disrupted the lining in the lungs, which caused the cancer. It took around ten years for the ban on white asbestos to go through the court system. By the nineteen eighties though, all use of asbestos was banned, so as long as you are living in a new house, you should not have any asbestos in it.

Now that you know that there is a ban on white asbestos, you should feel better. Luckily, there is very little white asbestos left in public places. This is because the government has done a good job on making sure that all the white asbestos is eradicated. If you think that there is still white asbestos in your house though, you should make sure that you get rid of it. Otherwise, you will have a much higher chance of developing lung cancer, particularly mesothelioma.
